TAAG Angola Airlines wants to more than triple its number of flights by 2022.
In recent months, TAAG Angola Airlines' operations have suffered from the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic, namely the restrictions put in place by some countries following the discovery of the Omicron variant. But the storm now seems to have passed, and the horizon is brightening.
TAAG Angola Airlines is dreaming big in early 2022. According to NewsAvia, the Angolan state-owned carrier plans to increase its activity considerably by the end of the year. "We are increasing flights on a quarterly basis, and we plan to reach 73 domestic flights and 51 international flights per week by the end of this year," said the new president of the board of directors, Ana Francisco Major, at a press conference held on Monday 7 February 2022 in Luanda (Angola).
For a start, there is talk of increasing from 20 to 44 domestic routes per week, and from 13 to 29 international trips per week. This increase will be achieved by increasing the density of old routes, such as Maputo (Mozambique) and Johannesburg (South Africa). But also by opening new routes. "We are in advanced discussions to serve Cape Verde and Zambia," added Maria Francisco Major.
According to the PCA, other routes are also being studied, including an intercontinental route, which remains a secret for the moment.
TAAG Angola Airlines is also considering entering the cargo market, where there is still a demand that is not fully met by other companies. "This is an opportunity for Angola, which can have its own capacity to cover this demand, and share it in the region," says Major.
As part of its network expansion, TAAG took delivery of its fifth Dash 8-400 last month (the sixth will arrive in June 2022). The Angolan flagship also has 13 Boeing aircraft (five 737s and eight 777s).
