Air Seychelles to return to the Maldives in March
Due to health restrictions in force in some countries, Air Seychelles had been forced to temporarily close some of its routes. The Seychelles' public flagship is gradually reopening these routes, depending on the lifting of the restrictions and market demand.
Air Seychelles will return to the Maldives from 4 March 2022, "offering travellers the opportunity and more options to plan their well-deserved tropical getaway in the Indian Ocean". In a statement issued on 20 January, the Seychelles national airline said it was "committed to maintaining the vital tourism link between South Africa and the Maldives".
As a reminder, it has been connecting Johannesburg to Malé since early December 2020. But for its return to the South Asian island archipelago, the frequency remains unknown for the moment.
To meet the growing demand of the South African market, Air Seychelles has increased its weekly flights between South Africa and Seychelles from one to two (Thursdays and Sundays) on 3 February. Operated by A320neo, "the increased service will offer business and leisure travellers more choice when planning their trip between the two countries, including a seamless connection for those travelling on the Sunday flight to Mumbai of less than 2 hours over Seychelles.
The Seychelles flagship has also reopened its routes to Mauritius, India and Israel. "In the meantime, Air Seychelles will continue to monitor its performance to rebuild its network and offer more options as passenger confidence returns," he said. It should be recalled that the restructuring carrier recently had its bonded debt reduced by 60%.
