Air Tanzania in talks to sign commercial agreements with Emirates and KLM
Air Tanzania is preparing to serve the US and Europe. To move faster, the Tanzanian flagship is currently negotiating code-share/interline agreements with Emirates and KLM.
"These airlines are among the biggest in the world. Therefore, partnerships with them are necessary in view of our arrival in the US and Europe," said ATCL managing director Ladislaus Matindi, as reported by The Citizen on Thursday, February 24, 2022. The statement was made during a tour by the Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Tanzanian Ministry of Works and Transport, Dr Ally Possi.
With these partnerships, the Tanzanian carrier is expected to offer more travel opportunities, now marketing flights to all international destinations covered by its partners. Currently, Air Tanzania mainly serves East Africa, Southern Africa, Comoros and India. The carrier collaborates with Rwandair, Ethiopian Airlines, Qatar Airways and Air India. "We continue to develop our activities but also to increase the number of employees in order to be competitive in the market," added the CEO.
He also assured that Air Tanzania's tickets are now available worldwide despite the problems with the ticketing system, adding that currently the company has 15 offices in the country and eight international representations. The minister revealed that the company has lost Sh60.24 billion due to the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic. Dr Possi however reassured that efforts to overcome the challenge were continuing.
