Kenya Airways suspends service to Yaoundé in Cameroon, postpones return to Italy
Kenya Airways has reviewed its route network. This is now a routine exercise as part of its post-pandemic recovery plan.
In a press release published on 7 March on its website, Kenya Airways announced the suspension of its service to Yaoundé from Tuesday31 May 2022. The service to the Cameroonian capital is currently operated by Embraer E190 as an extension of its Nairobi-Douala route, which remains in place.
The carrier has also postponed its return to Milan and Rome, originally scheduled for 8 June 2022. "The postponement is due to lower passenger demand due to a slower than expected recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic," it explains. "We continue to serve Italy via our European destinations: London, Paris and Amsterdam in connection with our partner airlines SkyTeam, ITA (Italia Trasporto Aereo) and Air France-KLM."
In the wake of its readjustments, Kenya Airways has also reduced its rotations on its domestic Nairobi-Kisumu route from 26 to 17 flights per week. Conversely, it has boosted its offer on its London route. Throughout the winter, the route to the British capital will become daily, compared to the current five flights per week.
Kenya Airways says this route network review programme "will be adjusted as the world continues to open up and growth opportunities continue to present themselves".
