TAAG Angola to land in Madrid, Spain
Once opened, Madrid will become the third European city, after Lisbon and Porto in Portugal, served by TAAG Angola.
TAAG Angola has announced on its social networks the forthcoming opening of a direct route between Luanda and Madrid. This will be the first time that the Angolan national flag will deploy regular operations to the Spanish capital.
For some years, between 2011 and 2016, Luanda's Quatro de Fevereiro International Airport had a direct link to Madrid's Adolfo Suárez/Barajas Airport. The flights were operated by the Spanish airline Iberia in A330s. Subsequently, this rotation had been suspended in the summer of 2016 due to very low demand, with Iberia promising a return once conditions became favourable again. This has not happened so far. In June of that year, Iberia's traffic was reallocated to flights of its sister airline British Airways, with a stopover at London/Heathrow airport.
Since the arrival of the new executive at the end of 2021, TAAG is also looking at the possibility of reviving its service to Paris in France, a city to which the Angolan airline has flown regularly in the past with good load factors.
In addition, it could play an important role in developing the international network of Cabo Verde Airlines, the national carrier of Cape Verde. The two Portuguese-speaking airlines have established a cooperative partnership, which recently resulted in the assignment (wet lease) of a TAAG Boeing 737-700 to Cabo Verde Airlines. The Angolan company could also provide more capacity - its long-haul 777 fleet - to rebuild the American network (USA and Brazil) of Cabo Verde's national flagship.
