Disney Wish departs shipyard for Ems River conveyance
Disney Wish has left the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany and completed her conveyance down the Ems River to a second shipyard where her construction will be completed.
The brand-new Disney Wish, the first in a new class of cruise ships for Disney Cruise Line, transited the river backwards, arriving at the shipyard’s final fit out and finishing location ahead of her sea trials.
After sea trials, Disney Wish will be delivered to Disney Cruise Line later this year, and is scheduled to sail her first passenger voyages from Port Canaveral in Florida in July.
The LNG-powered cruise ship is one of three planned sister ships, with additional vessels in the class due for delivery in 2024 and 2025, respectively.
Disney Wish is the cruise line’s largest and most ambitious ship to date, with a whole host of new features, from new dining and entertainment concepts, to new stateroom categories and adults-only spaces.
Disney Wish will offer “more opportunities than ever” in terms of entertainment according to the cruise line, with many of the same characters and stories as other ships in the fleet that have been reimagined in key ways.
These include shops such as Inside Out: Joyful Sweets, and experiences such as Olaf’s Royal Picnic and entertainment concepts such as the Grand Hall, Luna, Hero Zone, and the first-ever Disney attraction at sea.
Using the latest technology, the cruise line promises to bring all these areas to life with storytelling and interactive shows. In terms of sit-down production shows, the cruise line has confirmed there will be a Little Mermaid musical and a new production called Seas the Adventure.
Disney Wish will also debut the interactive dining concept Avengers: Quantum Encounter in its World of Marvel restaurant. The Avengers: Quantum Encounter dining experience will immerse guests in the Marvel Universe through sophisticated technology and innovative storytelling, according to the cruise line.
The ship will also introduce a first for the cruise industry: a suite within the funnel. The Wish Tower Suite will sit right at the top of the ship, higher than the navigation bridge or any other public spaces. At 1,966 square feet, it will be one of the largest aboard any cruise ship and is designed to sleep up to eight guests.
Disney Wish will also provide a variety of new venues for adults, including the fleet’s first outdoor spa retreat, salon and barbershop experiences, and a collection of bars and lounges.
Disney Wish will have a capacity for 2,500 passengers at double occupancy and 4,000 at full occupancy. She will homeport in Port Canaveral, Florida from July, 2022, sailing a range of Caribbean itineraries.
