UK start-up Sentra Airways makes Accra its first African destination
Sentra Airways has signed a contract with Air Lease Corporation for the lease of an Airbus A330-200. This commercial transaction is part of the future launch of the young British airline's activities.
"From winter 2022 (December), fly direct from Manchester in the UK to Accra in Ghana. That's the gist of the message, which stems from a video posted by Sentra Airways on its Instagram account on Sunday 17 April 2022.
The choice of Accra as the launch destination for the young British private airline is not insignificant.
Indeed, it considers the Ghanaian capital as the gateway to West Africa (in particular to Nigeria, Togo, Burkina Faso, Ivory Coast, Niger, Senegal, Gambia) and Southern Africa. This route will be operated by Airbus A330-200. The aircraft, leased from Air Lease Corporation (ALC), will be delivered this summer and will be the first of its future fleet.
"Sentra Airways is delighted to have finally reached this important milestone," said Ishmael Musah, the company's chief executive officer, in a statement issued by ALC on 7 April. "We look forward to continuing to work with ALC, and to obtaining the regulatory approvals necessary for the UK to issue our Air Operator Certificate (AOC) later this year," added Bruce Fenton, Sentra Airways' chief executive.
In its growth plan, the private flag carrier plans to serve other African destinations and the US. It is headquartered on the southern outskirts of Bradford, just 50 miles from its operating base at Manchester Airport.
