Big moment for Madarail as new loco starts for the first time
It was with smiles all round in Antananarivo, Madagascar this week as one of Madarrail's new Mexico-built locomotives started up for the first time.
"Loco 1902 fires up for the first time," African Railway Systems chief operating officer Dylan Knott wrote on Facebook. "A proud moment for all."
The locomotive, built by African Railway Systems partner Ferrovias Del Bajio S.A (FVB) at its workshops in San Luis Potosi, Mexico, is one of four new G20-3-class locomotives being supplied to Madarail to operate the 673km-long Tananarive–Côte Est (TCE) system in Madagascar.
Commissioning of the G20-3 locomotives for Madarail is almost complete, Knott told Railways Africa.
