Zambia appoints three new Board Members to TAZARA
Zambia Ministry of Transport has appointed the new Board of Directors for the Tanzania-Zambia Railway Authority (TAZARA) after the dissolution of the previous one in October 2021. The move follows the Cabinet sitting on 3rd May 2022 which approved the appointment of the new Members of the Board in accordance with Part IV Section 11 of the Tanzania-Zambia Railway Authority Act No. 10 of 1995.
The three approved Members of the Board from Zambia will join the other three members from the Republic of Tanzania as members of the Tanzania-Zambia Railway Authority Board of Directors.
The Minister has named the three TAZARA Board of Directors from the Zambian side as;
1. Mr. Fredrick Mwalusaka – Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Transport and Logistics;
2. Mr. Musokotwane Sichizuwe – Assistant Director, Ministry of Finance and National Planning; and
3. Mrs. Irene Mwamba – Senior Manager, KPMG.
TAZARA is a bi-national railway jointly owned by the Governments of the United Republic of Tanzania and the Republic of Zambia on a 50-50 shareholding basis.
The 1,860 km-railway was built as a turn-key project, with financial support from the People’s Republic of China between 1970 and 1975.
It connects land-linked Zambia to the seaport of Dar-es-Salaam in Tanzania and further provides road and railway inter-connectivity to other parts of Southern Africa, making it a vital rail link in the logistical chain.
