Casablanca: Air Canada resumes flights, Kuwait Airways arrives next month
Since the reopening of the borders decided by the Moroccan authorities, several airlines, including Air Canada, have returned to Casablanca. And for the next summer season, new carriers, such as Kuwait Airways, are banking on the charm of this popular tourist destination.
Since 5 May, Air Canada has resumed its non-stop service between Montreal and Casablanca in Morocco. The Canadian carrier currently offers three flights per week between the two cities.
Air Canada's flight frequency is expected to increase in the coming months on its Montreal-Canada corridor. The route is operated by Airbus A330-300, configured with 32 seats in business class, 21 in premium and 241 in economy. Air Canada competes on this route with Royal Air Maroc (RAM), which offers a daily flight between the two cities by Dreamliner.
In Africa, Air Canada also serves Cairo, Egypt.
Following the arrivals in Casablanca, Kuwait Airways has also announced the start of flights to the Moroccan economic capital from 1 June, with two rotations per week on Sundays and Wednesdays.
"We are pleased to announce the launch of one of the new destinations [...] Casablanca has always been of immense importance to our customers in their preferences, due to its popular tourist attractions as well as its historical and cultural monuments," said Kuwait Airways commercial director Dr Walid Abillama.
The route will be operated by Airbus A330-800 aircraft with a capacity of 32 passengers in Business Class and 203 in Economy. Once operational, the direct Kuwait City - Casablanca route will increase the flow of passengers between the two countries. In 2019, traffic between Kuwait and the North African country totalled some 60,000 return passengers.
This route will become Kuwait Airways' third African destination and Morocco, the second country served by the Kuwaiti flag after Egypt where it connects Cairo and Sohag. Its other routes planned for 2022 include Manchester (3 May), Moscow (2 June), Madrid (11 June), Salalah (13 September).
