Ethiopian Airlines makes Chennai its 4th Indian destination, boosts Mumbai and New Delhi
India is one of Ethiopian Airlines' main destinations on the Asian continent. The Ethiopian state-owned flagship has continuously increased the frequency of its flights and destinations since it started operations in the country, and even continued its services (reduced service) during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Ethiopian Airlines is adding Chennai to its Indian network. From 2 July 2022, Africa's leading airline will offer three weekly flights to the southern Indian city. The route, which will be operated by Boeing 737-800, becomes its fourth passenger service in the country, after New Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore (reopened on 27 March). All these four cities are also part of ETH's cargo network, in addition to Ahmedabad.
"We have been connecting Asia and Africa for 55 years, facilitating trade between the two continents. The addition of Chennai as our fourth passenger destination in India is a testament to our resilience and unwavering commitment to serving our customers in India and the continent as a whole. We will continue to serve India with increased frequency and more destinations in the future," promises Mesfin Tasew, the new CEO of Ethiopian Airlines Group.
In addition to the opening of a new route to Chennai, the airline will increase its service to Mumbai from one to two daily trips, and to New Delhi from nine to ten weekly flights.
