TUI Airways launches seasonal London Gatwick -Dakar route
TUI Airways, the UK subsidiary of the TUI Group, is preparing for its first flight to Senegal in Africa.
TUI Airways is opening a seasonal route to Senegal this autumn. From 7 November 2022 to 27 March 2023, the British private carrier will link London-Gatwick International Airport in England to Dakar-Blaise Diagne. It will serve this route once a week (every Monday), using a Boeing 737 MAX 8, with a capacity of 189 passengers.
The outbound flight will leave its base at 9.30am, arriving in the Senegalese capital at 3.40pm (local time). As for the return flight, it will leave Senegal at 4.40pm, to land in London at 10.55pm, Aeroroutes said.
Currently, no airline links Senegal and the UK. However, Air Senegal was planning to serve London's Stansted airport from 26 June 2020. Unfortunately, the paralysis of international air transport, due to the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic, has forced the Senegalese public carrier to postpone its project. Currently, no new date has been set for the eventual opening of the route.
With 1.9 million customers carried in the first quarter of 2022, about 10 times more than in the same period last year, TUI Airways is currently present in Egypt (Hurghada, Sharm el Sheikh), Morocco (Agadir, Marrakech), Tunisia (Enfidha) and Cape Verde (Boa Vista, Sal).
