Disney Cruise Line takes delivery of ground-breaking new ship Disney Wish Disney Cruise Line takes delivery of ground-breaking new ship Disney Wish

Disney Cruise Line’s new cruise ship Disney Wish has been delivered by Meyer Werft at a traditional handover ceremony in the storied German port of Bremerhaven.

The handover of the ship is the final step in her construction process, bringing to a close her two-year build, which began in 2020 with her steel cutting at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Germany.

Disney Cruise Line President Thomas Mazloum and Meyer Werft Managing Director Jan Meyer signed the official documents transferring ownership of the Disney Wish from the shipbuilder to Disney.

During the handover ceremony, numerous Meyer Weft and Disney Cruise Line executives came together to witness the lowering of the Meyer Werft flag and raising of the Disney Cruise Line flag on the ship.

The new DIsney Cruise Line ship is now under the command of Captain Marco Nogara who will sail Disney Wish on her transatlantic voyage from Bremerhaven to her home in Port Canaveral, Florida.

Disney Wish is the fifth ship in the Disney Cruise Line fleet, and the cruise line’s most ambitious to date, with a brand-new, distinctly Disney design concept unlike any other ship in the fleet.

The ship features new spaces and experiences infused with Disney storytelling that brings to life the fantastical worlds and beloved characters at the heart of Disney, Pixar, Marvel and Star Wars adventures.

Disney Wish features many of the same characters and stories as other ships in the fleet, but they have been reimagined in key ways.

These include shops such as Inside Out: Joyful Sweets, and experiences such as Olaf’s Royal Picnic and entertainment concepts such as the Grand Hall, Luna, Hero Zone, and the first-ever Disney attraction at sea.

Using the latest technology, the cruise line promises to  bring all these areas to life with storytelling and interactive shows. In terms of sit-down production shows, the cruise line has confirmed there will be  a Little Mermaid musical and a new production called Seas the Adventure.

Disney Wish will  also debut the interactive dining concept Avengers: Quantum Encounter  in its World of Marvel restaurant. The Avengers: Quantum Encounter dining experience will immerse guests in the Marvel Universe through sophisticated technology and innovative storytelling, according to the cruise line.

Disney Wish will also provide  a variety of new venues for adults, including the fleet’s first outdoor spa retreat, salon and barbershop experiences, and a collection of bars and lounges.

The ship will homeport in Port Canaveral, sailing cruises to the Caribbean, the first of which sets sail on July 14th this year.
