Ethiopian Airlines code-shares with SriLankan Airlines
This codeshare agreement between Star Alliance member Ethiopian Airlines and Oneworld carrier SriLankan Airlines will expand their respective customers' access to seven new destinations.
Ethiopian Airlines and SriLankan Airlines are expected to begin their codeshare agreement from next week. The agreement is expected to enter into its active phase on July 4, AeroRoutes reports.
According to the agreement between the two national carriers, Ethiopian Airlines will now code-share flights operated by SriLankan Airlines between its Colombo hub and services in Dubai, Jakarta and Melbourne.
In return, the Sri Lankan flag will also market tickets on flights operated by Ethiopian Airlines from Addis Ababa to Cape Town, Dubai, Johannesburg and Sao Paulo.
This agreement, the first of its kind between the two carriers, which extends the scope of their respective networks, could in the future include other points (subject to government approval). It is not excluded that they will also explore the possibility of cooperation on their respective frequent flyer programmes, to allow their respective customers to earn and redeem frequent flyer points for award tickets, upgrades and other exclusive benefits.
