EgyptAir applies for permission to fly to Bangladesh
EgyptAir currently serves more than 80 destinations, including 4 countries in Asia. In this region of the world, the Egyptian national flag wants to increase its presence.
EgyptAir could soon connect Egypt to Bangladesh. The Egyptian flag carrier has asked the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh for permission to open a route between Cairo and Dhaka, reports The Bangladesh Monitor on Thursday 4 August 2022. In response, CAAB chairman Air Vice-Marshal Mofidur Rahman asked the airline to be ready as it may start operations soon.
The airline plans to start with two weekly flights, before moving to daily operations. In the form sent to CAAB, it says that through its service, Bangladeshi students will have the opportunity to study in Egyptian universities, while visitors will benefit from Egypt's multifaceted tourism. The Egyptian state-owned pavilion adds that Bangladeshis would be able to travel to its various destinations in the Middle East and Europe, via its Cairo hub. Bangladesh, the world's largest Muslim country, is a South Asian market of over 164 million people.
With a fleet of nearly 70 aircraft, with an average age of 8.2 years, EgyptAir currently serves more than 80 destinations in the Middle East, Europe, Africa, Asia and America. According to The Bangladesh Monitor, the carrier had in the past expressed its intention to serve Bangladesh to CAAB, but did not make a written request.
Its arrival in the country will more or less increase its presence in Asia, a continent where it has very little presence. Outside the Middle East, EgyptAir serves India, China and Thailand.
