Air Algérie returns to 6 African routes, targets 3 new countries including South Africa
On 10 August 2022, Air Algérie, the Algerian national airline, obtained the OK from the ministry in charge, to reopen several corridors closed since March 2020, as part of the fight against the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Air Algérie's African network is gradually being rebuiltwith the re-launch of several routes. From 22 August, the Algerian national airline will reconnect Niamey (Niger) with two flights per week. Services to Dakar (Senegal) and Nouakchott (Mauritania) have also been reopened, each with two trips per week.
Abidjan (Ivory Coast), Bamako (Mali) and Ouagadougou (Burkina Faso) are scheduled to be served from September, with one flight per week each. In a press release from the Ministry of Transport, published on 10 August, it is also stated that the President of the Republic has 'ordered the opening of air routes to South Africa, Ethiopia and the Republic of Congo'. They will be effective once the regulatory authorisations have been obtained, according to Air Algerie's communication unit.
