ASKY Airlines ajoute Sao Tomé et Principe à son réseau
Sao Tome and Principe is the least connected African country by air. Currently, the Central African island nation is only connected to two African capitals, Luanda and Accra. The departure of Gabon's Afrijet earlier this year has further exacerbated the country's isolation. ASKY Airlines is expected to address this situation in the near future.
ASKY Airlines continues to spread its wings in West and Central Africa. The pan-African carrier has announced the start of its flights to Sao Tome and Principe from 15 October.
The island country will now be served three times a week (Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday) as an extension of the Lomé - Libreville route. ASKY Airlines will be using its Boeing 737-700 fleet.
Flight KP60 will leave Lomé at 14:20 to arrive in Libreville before continuing to Sao Tome, where it is expected at 17:45 local time. On the return leg, flight KP21 will leave Sao Tome the following day at 7:00 am and arrive in the Togolese capital at 10:20 am. ASKY Airlines will be without competition on this corridor.
As a reminder, the Gabonese carrier Afrijet had suspended indefinitely its service to Sao Tome last March citing the deterioration of "safety and security conditions on the platform as well as a hostile airport climate" towards its staff. And this after six years of operations in the market. Today, the country is only served by two international companies, TAAG Angola Airlines and TAP Portugal (via Accra).
