Air Algérie has Ethiopia and South Africa on its radar
Air Algerie plans to open new routes, notably to Ethiopia and South Africa. The CEO of the company announced this on the set of Echorouk TV on Tuesday 29 November 2022. However, Yacine Benslimane did not give any details about the possible launch dates.
The opening of these two new routes is part of the carrier's 2021-2025 development plan, which provides for the reinforcement of its network, particularly to Africa. On the continent, Air Algerie currently serves 7 countries: Burkina Faso, Côte d'Ivoire, Egypt, Mauritania, Niger, Senegal and Tunisia.
To support this growing continental network, the company launched a call for tender on 21 September for the acquisition of 15 aircraft. These will complete its current fleet of 55 aircraft.
During the interview, the boss of Air Algerie also revealed that the company has already reimbursed, since last June, about 140,000 unused tickets (during the health crisis), with a total value of 1.7 billion Algerian dinars. Benslimane added that the refunds will continue until March 2023. He also indicated that the establishment of two new subsidiaries, the MRO company and the ground handling company, will absorb the company's current overstaffing.
