Madagascar Airlines: three Embraer E190-E2 with Azorra and a new General Manager
Since December 2021, Madagascar Airlines has been operating the assets of Air Madagascar and its subsidiary Tsaradia, which is currently being restructured, under a management lease. The Malagasy government has finally opted for new blood and the operational advantages of the Embraer Ejet-E2 family to support the revival of the national flag.
Madagascar Airlines will acquire its first Embraer E190-E2 next year, and two more modules in 2024. This is what is foreseen in the agreement signed between the national Malagasy airline and the American aircraft lessor Azorra, this Wednesday 7 December 2022, during a ceremony organised at the Malagasy presidency, in the presence of Malagasy political and governmental authorities, but also the Brazilian aircraft manufacturer Embraer.
"This new aircraft will enable the airline to improve national and regional connectivity and open the country to new markets. It will allow it to strengthen its domestic network, but also to fly to destinations such as Dubai, with a single aircraft," says Michael Novak, Embraer's marketing director.
"We are confident that the Embraer 190-E2 will enable the airline to thrive, generating profits and expanding its network around the world. Azorra is proud to be the lead financial partner of this aircraft for Madagascar Airlines, and we look forward to the opportunity to expand this collaboration in the future," said Azorra's Vice President Marketing, Scott Boardman.
The 96-seat aircraft, which was recently certified in China, will allow Madagascar Airlines to join the list of Embraer operators and become the first E2 operator in the Indian Ocean. The new aircraft will complement the airline's existing fleet of two ATR72-500s, one ATR72-600, one Airbus A340-300 and three DHC6-300s.
The E2 family "allows airlines to increase operational flexibility, adapt capacity to demand and add frequencies, thereby improving connectivity in the post-epidemic era," the manufacturer said. The E190-E2 (delivered in April 2018 to Norwegian launch company Wideroe) and E195-E2 "are the most fuel-efficient single-aisle aircraft currently in service, offering 17.3% and 25.4% more fuel efficiency per seat, respectively, compared to previous generation E-Jets," Embraer adds.
The event was also an opportunity to introduce the new Managing Director of Madagascar Airlines, Thierry de Bailleul. "I would like to express my pride and enthusiasm for joining this magnificent project to put Madagascar Airlines on the road to recovery," he said. The newly promoted CEO has been Vice President Sales Europe for Qatar Airways and Country Representative for Emirates in France.
