Update For thr multinational Tanzania – Burundi – DRC Congo SGR project
In May 2023, a Request for Proposals is expected to be issued for the Construction of the Tanzania/Burundi (Uvinza – Musongati – Gitega) SGR Section, which is Phase I of the Multinational Tanzania – Burundi – DRC Congo SGR Project. The Governments of Tanzania and Burundi have requested financing from the African Development Bank, with the Tanzania Railways Corporation (TRC) as the Implementing Agency for the project.
The project entails the design and construction of an electrified Standard Gauge Railway line spanning approximately 282 KM, from Uvinza in Tanzania, across the international border along Malagarasi river to Musongati and onwards to Gitega in Burundi. The works will be executed under Design and Build Arrangement over a five-year period.
TRC intends to engage a single Works Contractor and a single supervising consultant for the entire project, which is divided into two lots. Lot 1 comprises the 156 KM Tanzania section, while Lot 2 encompasses the 126 KM Burundi section to be implemented in two packages.
Interested contractors must demonstrate their qualifications in detailed design, construction, and financial capacity. The Invitation for Initial Selection outlines the minimum requirements for each category. For the latest project notification, please click here.
