Cape Town: Update on the state of Table Mountain National Park following the current adverse weather
South African National Parks (SANParks) is urging visitors to Table Mountain National Park in Cape Town to proceed with caution or avoid carrying out activities due to the current adverse weather conditions the Mother City has been experiencing over the past two days. According to a notice issued by SANParks, the following areas are affected (as of 15 June 2023):
- Newlands Forest:
- eroded trails and fallen trees/branches.
- Tokai:
- Caution around the Arboretum. Lots of flooding in and around Tokai - picnic site, Orpen Road, northern perimeter of Lower Tokai, Tokai greenbelt and onto the M3.
- Rhodes Memorial:
- Tar road lifted, mass amount of debris in the road, eroded trails. Road closed until further notice.
- Schusterskraal Boardwalk (Scarborough) is closed pending repairs as a result of erosion underneath the boardwalk
- Mudslide on Tafelberg Jeep track and lots of rockfall on the tar road
- Mudslide along Constantia Nek hike leading up to the dam area.
- Report of a developing sink hole in Deer Park - rangers will assess the area to pin point the exact location.
