British Airways Rebooks London Bound Passengers On Virgin Atlantic, Delta Air Lines
British Airways has rebooked its Heathrow, London bound passengers from the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos on Virgin Atlantic Airways, Delta Air Lines and other foreign carriers due to a technical fault to its Boeing 787 aircraft.
Daily Independent gathered that the incident to the aircraft occurred on Wednesday, June 19, 2023 after the airplane arrived from London. The airline had prepared the passengers for a flight out of Lagos, Nigeria, on the said day, but the technical fault stopped the airlift.
Mrs. Tutu Otuyalo, the Country Manager, British Airways, confirmed the incident to our correspondent on phone.
According to her, in accordance with industry standards, the airline lodged the affected passengers in befitting hotels, while rebooking them on other flights out of the country to their various destinations. She explained that its Thursday flight out of Nigeria operated as scheduled, while some of the affected passengers were rebooked on other foreign airlines operating out of Lagos to their various destinations.
Apart from Virgin Atlantic Airways and Delta, Otuyalo said that some of the passengers were also rebooked on Lufthansa, Air France and others.
She said: “We have been in contact with our customers to apologise for the delay to their flight; this was caused by a technical issue with the aircraft. The majority of the customers have been re-accommodated on other flights and our team is working hard to book the remaining customers on a flight as soon as possible.
“We will cover the accommodation and meal costs for customers. We will never operate a flight unless it is safe to do so.” She could however, not give the number of affected passengers, but she said it was a full flight out of Lagos.
B787 aircraft’s capacity varies, depending on its configuration. The minimum seat capacity is 242, while it could also go as high as 335 passengers in typical three-class seating configurations.
