The eThekwini Municipality, which oversees the governance and management of Durban in KwaZulu-Natal, has released updated information as of January 13, 2025, regarding the condition of local beaches and swimming pools. According to the latest reports, 17 beaches in Durban are currently open and deemed safe for swimming, while six beaches remain closed due to concerns about water quality. Additionally, 30 swimming pools across the city are accessible to the public.

Open Beaches for Swimming

The following beaches are open for swimming, with operating hours from 06:00 to 18:30:

Closed Beaches for Swimming

The beaches that are currently closed for swimming include:

While swimming is prohibited at the closed beaches, the eThekwini Municipality has stated that recreational activities other than swimming are permitted at these locations.
