Sky Mali launches commercial operations with Bamako - Kayes flight
Sky Mali is finally taking off after several postponements due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Mali's new national carrier is making its first commercial flight this Tuesday, September 29 at 3:30 p.m. This will link Bamako to Kayes, the capital of the eponymous region located 495 km north-west of the country's capital. The line will be operated by Boeing 737-500 with 114 seats (102 in economy class and 12 in business class).
From its base at Bamako International Airport, Sky Mali plans to hear its network to the other regional capitals of Mopti, Gao and Timbuktu. Once its domestic network has been strengthened, the company targets regional services where the Malian community is important, like Gabon, Cameroon, Congo, Niger, Ghana, Senegal and Mauritania. Outside Africa, Sky Mali is eyeing Paris in France within one to two years.
To complete its fleet, the carrier plans to add a second 737-500, an ERJ145 and two 60-seat turboprop engines.
100% owned by private Emirati, through Wing Investments, Sky Mali does not rule out opening up its capital to the Malian state, and possibly to other private investors, in the short term.
