Proflight Zambia to champion safety
Proflight Zambia has joined aviation industry players from across the African continent to champion safety in the sector in the slipstream of COVID-19 recovery.
Africa is a continent on the rise and is the world’s second biggest air transport growth market. To embed the continent’s aviation industry on the world map, airlines across Africa are putting in place measures to maintain and build airline businesses that are sustainable and safe on the ground and in the air post the COVID-19 recovery.
Proflight Zambia Corporate Director Chitalu Kabalika joined the Safety in African Aviation (SiAA) 2020 conference hosted online by AviAssist in studio in the Netherlands. The veteran aviator shared pointers on the importance of data and analysis in the growth of the aviation sector, pointing to the quantum leap in using data in aviation.
“In my 40 years in aviation I have seen a change in the use of data analysis. I remember the time when I began my career in aviation, there was hardly any sort of data when dealing with issues either from flight operations, safety or accidents that had occurred,” said Mr. Kabalika.
“Through installing modern operation systems and documenting the data, we are able to learn from our mistakes and share our successes. Data has also played an important role in Proflight where training and operations is concerned. And most of the things from IOSA learning have been led by data,” he added, referring to the IATA Operational Safety Audit (IOSA) standards.
Industry players on the virtual platform discussed and shared insights on establishing best safety practices and technology to strengthen aviation in the COVID-19 recovery, and how to handle the ‘new norm’ of aviation with safety health guidelines and restrictions.
The online conference presented and moderated by the AviAssist Foundation director Tom Kok allowed African aviation players to share learning points, given the current situation. The AviAssist Foundation has been a leading supporter and promoter of safety in the African Aviation industry since 1995.
As airlines on the African continent begin their journey to recover, Proflight has put in place a range of measures to ensure that flights are safe for both passengers and staff, following safety health guidelines and restrictions. Facemasks are mandatory for both passengers and crew when boarding and during the flight. New aircraft cleaning procedures have also been included, such as the disinfection of all surfaces in contact with customers such as armrests, tables, and screens.
