Camair-Co plans to lay off 130 employees for economic reasons
130 of the 371 employees put on technical leave by the Cameroon Airlines Corporation (Camair-Co) on June 22 (for a renewable period of three months), will probably not return to their posts.
According to the business site Invest in Cameroon, the director general of the Cameroonian national company sent staff representatives on December 18 a letter containing the list of workers he proposed to "dismiss at the end of the six-month period. months that the technical unemployment lasted”.
According to Louis Georges Ndipendi Kouotou, these are "redundancies for economic reasons". It should be remembered that the company lost 9.2 million euros in the first half of 2020. “It should be noted that the selection criteria used for said dismissal are in order of priority, professional skills, seniority in the company. 'business and family responsibilities for workers,' says the CEO. According to Business in Cameroon, these layoffs are the start of the third component (rationalization of human resources management and reduction of the wage bill) of Camair-Co's restructuring plan, after the ongoing rehabilitation and strengthening of its fleet, and the resumption of its operations on October 18 (after their suspension in March). Since then, the carrier has operated a Boeing 737-300 (hired with crew for a period of 3 months) to serve the cities of Yaoundé, Maroua, Garoua and recently Ngaoundéré.
