Trans Air Congo (TAC) relaunches its regional flights
TAC is gradually rebuilding its regional network after being severely disrupted by the Covid-19 pandemic. The challenge now will be to ensure consistency.
On January 18, the Congolese private carrier relaunched the routes between its Pointe-Noire base and Douala in Cameroon. For now, the company offers a weekly rotation every Monday, between the Congolese and Cameroonian capitals. This city pair, operated without competition in a Boeing 737-500, had been temporarily suspended last November.
The reopening of services to Cotonou in Benin and Libreville in Gabon is still expected. A return to Bamako cannot be ruled out. On the domestic network, TAC currently offers two daily rotations between Brazzaville and Pointe Noire. TAC struggles to maintain regularity in its operations, despite the market left by Ecair - the national company of Congo - which has suspended its activities since October 2016.
In the grip of cash flow tensions, aggravated by the health crisis, the private carrier also faces the dilapidated state of its fleet, which currently consists of only one operational aircraft.
