Srilankan Airlines expands flights to Nairobi, Kenya
Srilankan Airlines is satisfied with its first months of operations in Nairobi. The OneWorld alliance airline wants to capture more of the traffic flow between Africa and the South Asian markets, China, the Far East and Australia.
Srilankan Airlines will operate an additional weekly flight between Colombo and Nairobi from October to meet the growing demand for travel from Asia. The new frequency will bring the number of services to three on this route, which operates without direct competition.
Regional Director for the Middle East and North Africa, Amitabh Anthonypillai, said the carrier's plans and arrangements to launch the second flight were being finalised.
He further added that the flagship airline is seeking "deeper partnership with the Kenyan flag carrier as well as other regional and international carriers operating at Jomo Kenyatta to offer a more holistic product to travellers in Kenya".
As a reminder, SriLankan Airlines started operations to Nairobi in April this year. The route is operated every Thursday with two flights, UL1709 and UL1715, using Airbus A330-300 aircraft. This is currently its only service to Africa since the suspension of the route to the Seychelles.
