P&O Cruises reveals reimagined SkyDome aboard new ship Arvia P&O Cruises reveals reimagined SkyDome aboard new ship Arvia

P& O Cruises has revealed renderings of the SkyDome aboard its new LNG-powered mega-ship Arvia, a sister ship to Iona. The SkyDome aboard Arvia will be similar to that aboard her sister ship Iona, but will feature the cruise line’s first retractable glass roof.

“Every aspect of the Arvia has been designed to bring guests even closer to the sea, sky and shore, reflecting [her[ name, meaning ‘from the seashore’,” P& O Cruises said in a press release. According to the cruise line, the SkyDome will be a “relaxed pool environment by day with entertainment by night, including live music, spectacular production shows, DJ sets and blockbuster movies al fresco on SeaScreen.”

The addition of a retractable roof reflects the itineraries for which Arvia has been designed, with the ship intended to the Caribbean for her inaugural cruise season, starting in December, 2022.

The roof measures 40.96 meters by 34.24 meters, providing more than 1,400sqm of glass over the pool and entertainment space, which can be retracted in warm weather. The glass ceiling was designed by Martin Francis with engineering works carried out by British firm Eckersley O’Callaghan.

The firm has worked on projects ranging from the Bulgari Glass House in Italy to Apple Park in California and its Steve Jobs Theater –  the largest structure in the world supported solely by glass.

Arvia is currently under construction at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Warnemunde, Germany. She will feature Altitude Skywalk, a unique high ropes experience, as well as eight restaurants and a dozen bars and cafes. The ship will offer fine dining at Epicurean, bar grub at The Glass House and Cellar Door, barbeques and grills at The Beach House, Indian fusion food at Sindhu and dinner snacks at The Limelight Club.

Her two main dining rooms will be the Meridian and Zenith.

Bars will include Sunset Bar, Brodie’s pub, Anderson’s Bar and The Crow’s Nest, which are all fleet favorites, but reimagined aboard Arvia, while her entertainment will feature aerial shows in the Grand Atrium, stage productions at Headliners Theatre, movies at Ocean Studios and a liveband and dancing in The Club House.
