Princess Cruises to host new dating show and Deal or No Deal
Princess Cruises has announced its fleet will play host to two new productions, one a TV dating show based on The Love Boat, and the other an iteration of the Deal or No Deal franchise. The Real Love Boat will be a reality dating competition series inspired by the 1970s scripted show that used Princess Cruises ships as its setting, while Deal or No Deal will be a live, hosted experience in the theatre.
The Real Love Boat will be produced by US network CBS and Australian broadcaster Network 10 with two localised versions to be filed during the summer cruise season in the Mediterranean.
“The Love Boat is a timeless, romantic concept with universal appeal, and we’re excited to reimagine this popular series for audiences in two different countries,” said George Cheeks, President & CEO of CBS. “Today’s announcement is another example of our global franchise strategy to use our rich intellectual property and vast international footprint to develop new content for viewers around the world.”
The show will bring together singles on a cruise in the Mediterranean during which they’ll look for love.
Destination dates, challenges and other surprises will “test the couples’ compatibility and chemistry”, according to a press release. Like the original scripted series, the crew members including “captain” and “cruise director” will play “pivotal roles” in the matchmaking.
After almost a month at sea, only one winning couple will make it to the final port and take home a cash prize plus a voyage courtesy of Princess Cruises. A Princess Cruises version of Deal or No Deal, meanwhile, will debut aboard Discovery Princess, as well as Majestic Princess, Regal Princess and the Sky Princess, with plans to roll out across the fleet.
The live, hosted experience offers contestants the chance to win prizes ranging from a free cruise to the grand prize of $1,000.
Guests can play along with their “case card” with a buy in ranging from $25-$50, as well as be one of two contestants – selected at random – who play live on stage for a chance to win up to $1,000. Guests in the audience who have purchased a game card are also working towards achieving eight matches to win up to $1,000 or a free cruise.
