Namibia Road Closure & Travel Alert: Zambezi Region Roads Affected by Heavy Rains Namibia Road Closure & Travel Alert: Zambezi Region Roads Affected by Heavy Rains

The Namibian Roads Authority (RA)  has announced the immediate, temporary closure of the District Road 3522/DR3522, commonly known as the Namalubi – Kalumba road, in the Zambezi Region. This critical route has been rendered impassable due to substantial damage from recent heavy rainfall. This closure will impact travel to and from the region and may require travel agencies to reroute itineraries or make alternative plans for their clients. The RA is yet to announce the duration of the closure, so regular updates should be sought.

Alongside this closure, the Roads Authority has issued an urgent advisory for road users travelling through the Zambezi Region. Several other routes have become extremely  slippery  and dangerous due to the prolonged wet conditions. Motorists are asked to exercise maximum  caution  on the  DR3510 (Bukalo – Lusese road), the  DR3512 (Ikumwe – Lusese road), and the  DR3572 (Bukalo – Sifuha road). These routes remain open but require a high level of vigilance and slower speeds to navigate safely.

These road conditions significantly affect travel within the Zambezi region, particularly for tourists and operators of tour vehicles. Travel agents are advised to  prioritize safety  and advise their clients to stay informed about the changing road conditions. Checking the Namibian Roads Authority's website or contacting them directly for the latest information is essential to avoid any disruptions or potential hazards. The RA is working to address the damage, but further weather impacts could potentially prolong the disruptions, so real-time communication and planning are critical.

These recent developments also emphasize the importance of having comprehensive travel insurance for clients travelling to Namibia and ensuring they are fully aware of the road conditions and have planned accordingly. It is vital that those working in the tourism sector in Namibia keep a close watch on road conditions to avoid potential incidents and ensure the safety and comfort of all travellers, particularly those relying on land transport through the Zambezi region. The RA will issue further updates as the situation evolves, and it is essential for travel operators to monitor these closely.
